The Caliph's council

In defiance of a 2010 law stipulating equal numbers of both sexes, the candidates' list for the 29 June municipal elections in the holy city of Touba includes no women. The city is home to the politically influential Mouride Brotherhood, one of several Sufi sects in the country. The election list looks like a power play by the Caliph, Serigne Sidy al Mokhtar Mbacké.
