The pressing need to increase water supply along the Nile’s 6,825 kilometres has nurtured various degrees of cooperation between ten states, several of which have strained relations. Water engineers from Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda have formed the Technical Cooperation Committee for the Promotion of the Development and Environmental Protection of the Nile Basin (Tecconile). It’s supposed to produce a strategy for developing the river’s resources.
