On 27 February, Sammy Kum Buo, Africa Director in the United Nations
Secretary General’s office, helped negotiate the dissolution of Andre
Mba Obame’s short-lived republic, which he had set up in the UN
Development Programme’s office in Libreville. Obame represents Medouneu
in Woleu-Ntem Province. After he declared himself the winner of the
August 2009 presidential elections (AC Vol 52 No 4), Interior Minister
Jean-François Ndongou dissolved Obame’s party, the Union Nationale, and
began legal proceedings against him.
