Conflict diamonds change shape

After the diamond-financed horror stories in Angola and Sierra Leone wound down, the conflict diamond story changed shape and fell out of the headlines. There still worries about conflicts in Côte d'Ivoire and residual instability in Liberia, where the diamond ban has just been lifted. But the worst case is Congo-Kinshasa, where diamonds have intermittently financed conflict and where today the country's diamond industry is in freefall as an increasingly dangerous insurgency spreads in the east.
