Brassed off: a contractor under fire

In the badlands of the Niger Delta a dispute over an oil-loading contract shows the often corrosive relationship between multinational oil companies, government officials and local militia fighters. On 31 May, Nigerian businessman Stanley Amada, based in the coastal town of Brass, was arbitrarily stripped of a multi-year contract to load crude oil from an offshore platform on to tanker ships.
