Sudan

From the ground up

Along the old front line in Western Equatoria, the bush and the birds had taken over. Now people are beginning to return, some selling bananas by the roadside. Towns near the borders with Uganda and Congo-Kinshasa have thriving markets, well built houses and pumps for clean water, though only skeleton transport services. International aid agencies are everywhere. Yei, near the Congolese border, even has very expensive internet access. Away from the borders, things are different.
