The government continues to block humanitarian aid and a third of a million lives are at risk

It was an operation typical of the one-two punch used in Darfur by the government's regular forces, hand in glove with the irregular forces known as Janjaweed. The double punch has driven about a million people into towns and temporary settlements controlled by the very people who are attacking them. Many call them concentration camps. First, government Antonov-12 aircraft bombed Abun, a village in the middle of Dar Messalit ('Messalit homeland'). Two days later, Janjaweed fighters on camels and horses attacked the village, as men who had stayed behind were burying food stores in anticipation of just such an attack.
