Damming evidence

The three major countries affected by US$4.8 billion Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) are about to appoint a consultant to report on its environmental and social impact. The African Affairs Advisor to Egypt's Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid, told Africa Confidential that delegations from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia are in Khartoum to make the selection. The impact study will include hydrological modelling, the most contentious part of the project, which has caused bitter argument between Egypt and Ethiopia.
