Asian interests

India's state-owned ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) and Indian Oil Corporation are in talks to buy Talisman Energy's Sudan operations. Canada's Talisman is under pressure because of the National Islamic Front government's use of oil income to fund its war and is joint defendant in a United States' class action alleging complicity in ethnic cleansing (AC Vol 43 No 5). It began seeking a buyer last summer and found an exit strategy by moving elsewhere: it bought Malaysian acreage from Sweden's Swiss-based Lundin Oil (which, amid fighting, halted its Sudan work in January).
