Sudan

Nice enough

Instead of going down in history as the man who prosecuted Slobodan Milosevic for genocide, Sir Geoffrey Nice may be remembered as the man who tried to save Omer Hassan Ahmed el Beshir from the same charges. In January, Sir Geoffrey, once lead prosecutor in the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia, asked the International Criminal Court not to issue an arrest warrant for President Omer. The submission, made with human rights lawyer Rodney Dixon, was on behalf of 'Citizens' Organisations of the Sudan', namely the Sudan Workers Trade Unions Federation and the previously unknown Sudan International Defence Group.
