Power without responsibility

Familiar faces line up in the new power-sharing government. Will local and international pressure hold it to account?

South Sudan's new post-civil war government, the Transitional Government of National Unity, looks like a return to the status quo ante, before over two years of ruthless fighting erupted in December 2013 between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his Vice-President, Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon. Riek eventually returned to the capital on 29 April as First Vice-President and the 30-minister TGoNU was announced on the next day.
