Pius and power

Archbishop Pius Ncube is emerging as the most important and convincing opponent of President Robert Mugabe's government. Ncube, the Roman Catholic prelate for Bulawayo, criticises corruption by the government and its failure to provide food aid to hungry Zimbabweans especially to those areas which voted for the opposition in his archdiocese. With other church groups, Ncube ran a food distribution network although it contravened government efforts to control food aid.
