Abuja is working on a military option if the Freetown junta refuses to go in April

The commitment that Major Johnny Paul Koroma’s Freetown junta gave Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Tom Ikimi, to hand over power by 22 April, looks less credible by the day. Neither side shows much sign of believing in it. Only deposed President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, as the sole player in the drama without either guns or money, seems to take it seriously. Kabbah, who has been living in exile in neighbouring Guinea, has announced that he will be returning home this month with 50 parliamentarians to set up an alternative government at the Lunghi Airport hotel, which is being cleared out for the purpose.
