Having triumphed by massive fraud in November's elections (AC Vol 46 No 24), Africa's longest serving leader, Omar Bongo Ondimba, looks forward to seven more years as President but faces some embarrassing problems on his western flank. Washington corruption tales claim Bongo paid lobbyist Jack Abramoff US$9 million to secure a meeting with President George Bush, in a 2003 deal. Bongo and Bush both deny any such arrangements for the meeting, held in May 2004.
