Exclusive update on the Equatorian coup plot deals - only available online

South African prosecutors are pressing ahead with investigations into the Equatorial Guinea coup saga following their plea bargain deal with Mark Thatcher, which was ratified in Cape Town's High Court on 13 January. The prosecutors expect Zimbabwe to release more than 60 soldiers arrested last March in connection with the coup plot imminently - and will want to question all the South Africans among them as soon as they're freed. In the past week investigators have questioned Johann Smith, a former South African military intelligence officer and security consultant, and James Kershaw, who worked as an accountant for the alleged coup leader Simon Mann, currently gaoled in Zimbabwe for attempting to buy arms illegally from the state arms company in Harare.
