Vaz kicks it into touch

Hopes that parliamentary elections on 18 November would end more than three years of political paralysis caused by the conflict between President José Mário Vaz and the majority faction of the Partido Africano para a Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde (PAIGC) have been dashed. Vaz appointed Prime Minister Aristides Gomes in April – under pressure from the Economic Community of West African States – with a remit to organise new polls.
