An election on autopilot

Despite communal violence, a shaky economy and a faltering anti-corruption campaign, the APC looks set to win another term

The national coalition that propelled Buhari to power four years ago has lost energy and direction. In its place is a ruling party, the All Progressives' Congress (APC), riven by factions which spend more time attacking each other than the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP). And neither party is offering radical new ideas for the country's deepening socio-economic woes. Everything seems to favour a victory for the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari. With less than ten months to go before the vote, there's no wave of excitement around any of the possible opposition candidates.
