Busy days for judges as the President struggles to lock up his predecessor

The two main suspects in President Levy Mwanawasa's anti-corruption campaign have gone missing. Former intelligence chief Xavier Chungu and former Ambassador Attan Shansonga have left the country, frustrating the state's efforts to prosecute former President Frederick Chiluba (AC Vol 44 No 24 & Vol 45 No 3). The High Court in Lusaka issued a fresh arrest warrant for Chungu; two of his relatives, who stood bail of 50 million kwacha (US$10,500) for him, have also disappeared. Shansonga, formerly Ambassador to the United States and now charged jointly with Chiluba with stealing US$41 mn., arrived in Britain on 16 March
