The World Bank's slow redeployment of its Africa Region staff (AC Vol 37 No 10) has given more senior jobs to Africans and women. Senegal's Mamadou Dia, formerly a division chief in the Technical Department, becomes Country Director for Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Two experienced Ghanaian economists have been promoted: Joseph Baah- Dwomoh as Technical Manager for one of the new agricultural divisions, Ohene Nynin as Technical Manager for Regional Initiatives. Kenyan education specialist Ruth Kagia heads one of three human development divisions. Praful Patel of Uganda becomes 'chief of the regional front office', which means chief of staff for the regional vice-presidents. Yusupha Crooks, a Gambian financial analyst, is one of two Technical Managers for transportation.
