Party management, fighting recession and trying miscreants dominate the NPP agenda

Eight months into his first term, the glister is coming off John Agyekum Kufuor's presidency. Glad-handing his New Patriotic Party government and demonising the outgoing National Democratic Congress regime is beginning to pall for local journalists and more critical voices are emerging. Kufuor faces three major problems: how to manage the NPP with its wafer-thin parliamentary majority; how to goad the sluggish economy into life as recession looms in the West; and how to handle the crop of allegations against leading members of the previous regime of grand corruption and human rights abuses.
