West African wager

Amid the fanfare around Ghana's 40th anniversary of Independence, little attention was paid to President Henri Konan Bédié of Côte d'Ivoire's first official visit since becoming President in 1993 (except for meetings of the Economic Community of West African States). Ghanaian-Ivorian relations have rarely been so good, except in Kofi Abrefa Busia's time, 1967-72. Also interesting was the homage paid by Bédié at the tomb of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President. This laid all manner of ghosts.
