Dislodging King Mswati III and his followers from their present monopoly of power is proving to be long and difficult. The Constitutional Review Commission, appointed in August 1996 and scheduled to produce a new constitution within two years, has yet to hold a substantive meeting; of the two progressive members of the Commission, the leader of the People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), Mario Masuku, has resigned and the Swaziland Federation of Trade Unions (SFTU)'s Vice-President, Themba Msibi, was only recently released from three weeks in detention.
