Biya election

The President's team arranged his Assembly majority; next comes his own election

President Paul Biya and his Rassemblement Démocratique du Peuple Camerounais (RDPC) look likely to get away with another flawed election. The RDPC claims to have won 109 of the 180 National Assembly seats in the 17 May legislative elections but few local or foreign observers believe it. The Supreme Court announced the results on 6 June, more than three weeks after the poll. The RDPC's rigging strategy was highly sophisticated, say our political sources, while the main opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF)'s political strategy was not.
