Cracking Koroma

The Freetown junta starts playing for time and recruits more fighters

The much-trumpeted Conakry peace accord of 23 October is already falling apart at the seams. Under the accord, Major Johnny Paul Koroma's Armed Forces Revolutionary Council undertook to hand over by next April to the elected government of Ahmed Tejan Kabbah; yet there is no sign that Koroma's government is serious about doing so. Quite the reverse; we hear the Koroma junta is still recruiting and training youths for its Peoples' Army.
