Agrogate, an Egyptian private equity group, hopes to start work this month on a hard-top road in Sudan, the 362 kilometre Dongola-Toshke (Argeen) Highway, which will link the country to Egypt. Agrogate’s Chief Executive Officer, Egyptian investment banker Osama Mourad, has the backing of the Sudanese government in Khartoum and says the interim government in Cairo is also keen. Agrogate is part of the ambitious Zawaya group, which plans not only a free trade zone but also a massive agricultural project in the desert area.
