Electoral victory roll

Turnout was pretty high, democracy won out and Jibril looks the favourite to form a government

Libya’s first fully democratic elections on 7 July won country-wide acceptance, even among groups which had been expected to boycott the vote. There were isolated protests and pockets of violence, which caused delays, but the turnout was estimated at 62% on 8 July. Intense political wrangles lie ahead, however, especially over the constitution.
