Opposition poll boycott

After President Yahya Jammeh’s victory in November’s presidential poll surprised nobody, the parliamentary elections of 29 March were similarly predictable. Anticipating fraud, the five major opposition parties boycotted the polls. They thought abstention would focus international attention on the absence of democracy much better than having to prove fraud after the fact.
