Best friends

The world's largest diamond producer by value stands ready to see off rivals as world recession slashes gemstone demand, especially from east Asia. The Debswana Mining Company, which pairs government and South Africa's De Beers is maintaining full capacity output at its three mines at Jwaneng, Orapa and Letlhakane. It is also proceeding as planned with the huge Orapa 2000 project, intended to double that mine's capacity to twelve million carats and lift overall national output to around 24 mn. carats.
