President Abdoulaye Wade took office in 2000, claiming democratic and economic credentials. Times have changed. After scandalous revelations about budgetary excess, his government’s competence and honesty are being questioned. Secondly, he seeks to extend his term from five to seven years, to ease the accession of his son, Karim Wade.
