Cocaine coast

Ghana, Guinea-Bissau and Mauritania were singled out as key locations for drugs transhipments by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's (UNODC) report for 2008. Diplomatic sources estimate that cocaine transhipments from West Africa to Europe now account for just under half of the cocaine sold in Europe, compared to a negligible amount five years ago. Cocaine is flooding through West Africa, the UNODC says, while heroin is smuggled from Afghanistan via East Africa en route for Europe.
