Licence to kill

The United Nations Commission on Human Rights has given the National Islamic Front government a free hand to pursue its policy of human rights violations. By refusing to renew the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Sudan (first appointed in 1993), the Commission has effectively sanctioned Khartoum's continued use of terror (AC Vol 44 No 7), signalled that it has no teeth and encouraged human rights violators worldwide.
