Islamic State may claw back big losses in Puntland

Garowe claims victory over Da’ish but the Jihadists are firmly established and can support operations across the region

After nearly two months of hard fighting, the Puntland authorities have announced they expect their campaign against Islamic State in Somalia to conclude successfully. The Islamic State (IS or Da’ish) affiliate has battled to establish a foothold on the southern coast of the Red Sea in over ten years of furious fighting against regional governments, United States Special Forces and its chief militant Islamist rival Al Shabaab.
