Dominant Dominique

Reform of France's Africa policy has been set back with the sacking of Foreign Minister Michel Barnier and his replacement by a diplomatic novice, Philippe Douste-Blazy. The new Prime Minister (another ex-Foreign Minister) Dominique de Villepin sees little need for reform, nor does President Jacques Chirac. They are in the Gaullist tradition, and advocate a strong unilateralist line in Africa.
