Three bid to succeed Geingob

As the end of President Hage Geingob's second and final five-year term of office nears, the SWAPO Party is set to pick his successor for the 2024 elections at its elective congress in November. The party vice-president it selects automatically becomes the presidential candidate at the national election, due one year later. Three hats are in the ring: incumbent vice-president and deputy Prime Minister Netmumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, 69, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, 54, and Environment and Tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta, 55.
