A proxy war between the Catholic Church and the Church of England has become one of the main subplots in the governorship election in a commercial hub on the banks of the River Niger. In Anambra state in south-eastern Nigeria, miles away from the church headquarters in Rome and London, the local dioceses of both denominations have gone to work to ensure that their anointed candidate becomes the next elected governor.
