With the main challenger excluded, the opposition will have a tough job preventing the election of Issoufou's designated successor

With the 27 December first round of the presidential election approaching fast, Mohamed Bazoum – who spent 10 years as President Mahamadou Issoufou's right-hand man – is in full campaign mode. The former foreign and interior minister, now candidate for the ruling Parti Nigérien pour la Démocratie et le Socialisme Tarayya (PNDS Tarayya), is touring the country in the hope of decisively securing his political inheritance.
