The leaders of South Sudan, notorious for its civil war, inconclusive peace deals and corruption, have found $280,500 to hire a lobbyist to try to persuade the United States government to lift its sanctions on those very leaders. The Ministry of Petroleum signed the deal with AZ Media this month, according to filings under the Foreign Agents Registration Act with the US Department of Justice. The New York firm is also to 'promote US-South Sudan relations, global understanding of South Sudan economic opportunities and economic development, support for peace, democracy, national security, [and] anti-corruption.'
