For President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta the new year brings renewed diplomatic pressure – and not just from an international community exasperated by the lack of progress in implementing the 2015 Algiers peace deal. He may also feel heat from fellow West African heads of state whose countries are suffering the bloody overspill from local tensions and jihadist violence that now extend from the inland delta of the River Niger west of Mopti to the frontier with Niger far in the east.
