On the bribe trail

Questions are mounting about the involvement of United States' oil services company Halliburton in the distribution of US$180 million of allegedly corrupt payments on a $10 billion gas export project in Nigeria made while Dick Cheney (now US Vice-President) headed the troubled corporation (AC Vol 45 No 13). The allegations, which have been the subject of a state investigation in France since October 2003 and in Nigeria and the USA since the beginning of this year, have a domestic importance in America because Cheney is seeking re-election as Vice-President on 2 November.
