Compaoré cannot now be extradited and Burkinabè are now questioning the zeal of their new leaders

Ivorian President Alassane Dramane Ouattara's decision to protect Burkina Faso's deposed President Blaise Compaoré /strong> by granting him citizenship is an act of aggression, say many in Ouagadougou. The decision – made long ago – was revealed only after Burkinabè judges issued arrest warrants against the former President for high treason, attacking the constitution and complicity in the murder of his predecessor, Captain Thomas Sankara. The charges were laid last July but the international arrest warrant only followed in December.
