Private guns

The National Islamic Front government is negotiating for a private army to help guard Southern oilfields. They appear to favour Executive Outcomes, based in South Africa with offices in Britain (AC Vol 37 No 15). Arakis Energy subsidiary State Petroleum holds former Chevron concessions at Bentiu and Heglig: it is seeking nearly US$1,000 million and needs to reassure potential investors.
