Fresh doubts over polls

The government shuns its own National Dialogue policy, raising more questions about this month’s elections

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP)'s refusal to attend a preparatory meeting with the opposition Sudan Call Forces in Addis Ababa on 29-30 March suggests it has dumped its own National Dialogue plan. This refusal boosts the standing of the opposition SCF just two weeks before national elections that it is boycotting. It also frustrates the meeting's host, the African Union, along with the Troika of Britain, Norway and the United States, and Germany, which had facilitated the 'pre-Dialogue' meeting. This followed the SCF's meeting in Berlin last month.
