Youth export palaver

Parliamentarians were up in arms after hearing that up to 100,000 young Malawians could be soon on their way to work in South Korea’s factories and farms in an effort by government to alleviate unemployment. The government in Seoul, however, says it has authorised no such programme. President Joyce Banda’s People’s Party (PP) government first announced the agreement in March. The opposition rejects the deal on the grounds that it would only worsen the ‘brain drain’ and accuses the government of obfuscation over how the wages of the emigrants would be managed.
