The Islamist International needs its friends in Khartoum but the price is rising

Sudan's government is walking a tightrope. Since the United States' and British bombing of Afghanistan began on 7 October, the threat to the National Islamic Front (aka National Congress) regime from US bombs or US support for the armed Sudanese opposition is real enough. The NIF is under pressure to provide information about known terrorist residents or ex-residents of Sudan. Yet cooperation with Washington is provoking accusations of betraying the Islamist cause, from militants within and without Sudan within and without Sudan
