An opposition attack on government forces at a little known mountain called Togan, about 100 kilometres north of Kassala, has produced sheaves of documents detailing the National Islamic Front (NIF)'s use of Eritrean oppositionists. The offensive began in mid-March on the east side of mountain, when more than 200 National Islamic Front and People's Defence Force troops were killed. In late March, opposition forces attacked west of the mountain, where NIF, PDF and Eritrean Islamic Jihad had a camp called Tamkeen ('entrenchment', here of Islam).
