Who will follow Blé Goudé to the Hague?

After ex-President Gbagbo's cheerleader joins him for trial at the ICC, the court's investigations focus on President Ouattara's allies

Feted by his supporters in Abidjan's tough suburb of Yopougon as ‘the General of the Street’, the former Youth Minister Charles Blé Goudé landed on 22 March in the Hague for trial at the International Criminal Court. He had fled to Ghana after the fall of president Laurent Gbagbo in April 2011 but was arrested there and sent to Côte d’Ivoire in January 2013 (AC Vol 55 No 4, The price of peace & Vol 54 No 2, Blé Goudé arrested). President Alassane Dramane Ouattara's government finally took the decision to hand him over on 20 March and the first ICC hearing took place a week later, on 27 March. He stands accused on four counts of crimes against humanity, including murder and sexual violence.
