Since 1993, when only South Africa, Tunisia and Algeria had internet connectivity, there has been a vast expansion of web providers and services in Africa. Now only a minority of countries have no access. Apart from the potential for commercial promotion which has been exploited by many companies, information – on news, stock-markets, arts, sport, tourism, governments – is the commodity which will drive the future of the internet.
