Goodluck Jonathan loses the numbers game

The defections in the House of Representatives have stripped the President's party of its majority and boost the opposition coalition

This year started with a row between President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and it is ending with a second and bigger row between the two. The latest one is more toxic, causing political chaos and threatening the survival of Jonathan's government. It is widely said in Abuja that Jonathan would lose a credible election if one was held tomorrow. In fact, the real national elections are little more than a year away, making the latest crisis a critical one for Jonathan and allies.
