The opposition Semayawi Party has said it will hold a demonstration on 7 September, having failed to stage a promised public show of opposition to the government in Addis Ababa on 1 September because it clashed with a pro-government demonstration. The police said the party, which held a rally of anywhere between 2,000 and 10,000 people in June, had not got a licence for its demo, which clashed with a planned march to ‘denounce extremism’, organised by the Addis Ababa Inter-Religious Council.
