After the council, a reshuffle

Amid the doctrinal squabbles in Durban, speculation intensfied about how President Jacob Zuma might reshuffle his cabinet. Hard-line presidential allies such as the Communications Minister, General Siphiwe Nyanda, fear the erosion of the President’s authority. Some call for the marginalisation of Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, whom many want to succeed Zuma. One plan was to persuade Motlanthe to step down and redeploy him to the African National Congress headquarters in Luthuli House.
